A Coalition of Civil Society Groups under the auspices of the Free Nigeria Movement has demanded the immediate reversal of the fuel subsidy removal pronouncement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The group also threatened nationwide protest as it gave the federal government 7 days to reverse the pronouncement.
The Convener of the Group, Dr Moses Paul, at a press briefing in Abuja, lamented the dictatorial pronouncement on the removal of subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Moses Paul, who spoke on behalf of the Civil Society Groups said the President’s action amounts to inflicting a fresh round of pains, suffering, and misery on Nigerians.
According to him “The president, whose ascension to power awaits confirmation by the courts, has by this pronouncement inspired the longstanding greed in the petroleum industry with the NNPC Limited leading the way by its immediate release of upwardly reviewed pump price of between N488 and N557 in a nearly 200% nationwide hike”.
