Fubara sacks Chief of Staff, 23 council chair, dissolves cabinet in complete cleansing of Wike’s vestiges
Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has removed close allies of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike from his government.
The mass sack of Wike’s associates followed moves by lawmakers loyal to the FCT Minister to begin impeaching the governor.
Until his election as Governor, Fubara was the former Accountant General of Rivers State whom Wike handpicked as his successor. To show good faith, the new governor populated his cabinet with Wike’s loyalists.
But on Monday, after pro-Wike lawmakers started plotting against him, Fubara started firing all vestiges of Wike around him.
There are indications that some officials of the Rivers State Government who were loyal to Wike, switched camp and swore loyalty to Fubara as a way of saving their jobs.
Among the Rivers State Government officials that Fubara has fired include; chief of staff, Chidi Amadi and 23 caretaker local government chairmen. He also dissolved the state executive council.
The governor has also instigated the removal of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaehwule, and caused many pro-Wike loyalists to switch camp to his side.
The Chief Judge of the State, Chibuzor Amadi, was also not spared. The pro-Fubara House of Assembly ordered for his removal.
