Former Ogun state governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel has written the Ogun state government to suspend the payment of his N676,376 entitlements as a former Governor of the state following his inauguration as a Nigerian lawmaker.
Making this disclosure in a statement made available on his social media page on Thursday, the former governor explained that his decision was made in good conscience, according to moral principles and guiding ethics.
“After my inauguration at the Senate, I wrote H.E Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, CON on June 14, 2023, to notify him of my decision to have the monthly payment of N676,376.95kobo being gross payment for my pension and allowances as former governor of the Ogun State suspended immediately. This decision, I made, in good conscience, moral principles and guiding ethics.”
He further revealed that the benefits gotten from the Ogun state government were “ the only payment and package I get from the state government as a former governor.”
Recall that the former governor emerged victorious at the Ogun East senatorial election. He was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the senatorial poll in Ijebu and Remo axis of Ogun.
Daniel won in all nine local government areas of Ogun East, defeating the PDP which came second with 58,708 votes and the Labour Party that had 13,061 votes.
