Senate President Godswill Akpabio has administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance to Simon Bako Lalong, the former Minister of Labour and Employment, who now represents Plateau South in the Senate. The swearing-in took place on Wednesday, following Lalong’s formal resignation from the Federal Executive Council as a minister on Tuesday, December 19.
This development follows a Court of Appeal judgment validating Simon Lalong’s election as the lawmaker representing the Plateau South senatorial district. The court nullified the participation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its senatorial candidate, Napoleon Bali, in the February 25 National Assembly elections for Plateau South Senatorial District. The court cited the refusal to carry out a lawful court order as grounds for the nullification and declared Simon Lalong as the rightful winner of the election.
