As the new season of the English Premier League and other European leagues kicks off, Nigerian football fans have continued to express their excitement.
Manchester City’s match against Burnley marked the start of the 23/24 English Premier League season. Following their victory over Burnley at Turf Moor, Manchester City sent a very strong message as they sought to defend their EPL title.
The victory has moved them to the top of the league standings. Title contender Arsenal will play Nottingham Forest on Saturday in an attempt to pass them.
After winning a treble last season, City remains the favorite to retain the title following the failure of North London side, Arsenal to lift the EPL title after holding on to the first position for a long time.
Speaking with PoliticsNow Yemi Alimi a Chelsea football fan expressed his excitement at the return of top-tier European leagues. According to him, his weekend would stop being uneventful.
“Now my weekend will be engaging and more eventful, I really missed Matchdaylive and it is back,” he said.
Also sharing his excitement about the return of the EPL, Olamie Ayeni, a ‘die hard’ Arsenal fan, expressed optimism that his team would emerge, winners of the 23/24 EPL season, after failing to clinch the EPL title last season.
“i’m an Arsenal fan and this season we are coming for the league,” Ayeni said as he warned supporters of other teams to watch out for a blazing Gunners’ side.
This Saturday, Arsenal will play host to Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium as it seeks to recreate its stellar performance from last season. Saturday will also witness other EPL fixtures.
