Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to demonstrate the sacrifice he preaches by cutting the extravagance around him.
Tinubu had told Nigerians that they must be willing to make sacrifices as committed citizens.
“Being a very good citizen comes with responsibility. As citizens, what do you do to be a very committed member of our society? Go and sacrifice. Love your country, love your neighbours, share what you have with one another, and be thankful to Almighty God. That’s all,” said the president during the celebration of Eid-El-Kabir.
Following a report that Tinubu was planning to buy two private jets, Momodu said the act contradicted what Tinubu preaches.
The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, had earlier cautioned the president from contemplating such extravagance purchase.
Momodu, in a post on his X handle in solidarity with Obi, advised Tinubu to abandon the idea.
He said: “In these hard times, there’s no compulsory reason for a country to own Presidential jets. In fact, it is an overindulgence. ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU owned private jets ever before he was declared President. He can demonstrate the SACRIFICE he preaches by downsizing and returning to them and requesting his retinue to go commercial when absolutely necessary. AIR PEACE has a fleet of Boeing 777 that can be hired for long-haul flights and this will keep them in business. The trouble is our politicians are outlandishly flamboyant… There’s nothing wrong with what PETER OBI said and suggested.”
