FIFA Rankings Update: Super Eagles Drop to 42nd Globally, Maintain 6th Spot in Africa

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have slipped two places in the most recent FIFA rankings, now securing the 42nd position globally.

As per the official FIFA website’s ranking table released on Thursday, the Eagles experienced a drop of 16.04 points, settling at 1474.44 points, compared to 1490.48 in October.

Despite this decline, the team’s standing on the continent remains unchanged, maintaining its position as the 6th-ranked team in Africa. Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt precede Nigeria in the continental rankings.

This drop follows the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho on Nov. 16 and Zimbabwe on Nov. 19.

While Argentina continues to lead the global rankings, followed by France and England, there have been some shifts among the top 10 teams. Belgium has moved up one spot to the 4th position, while Brazil, despite a two-place drop to 5th, still remains in the top 5.

The Netherlands has climbed one place to 6th, swapping positions with Portugal, which now sits at 7th. The rest of the top 10 features Spain (8th), Italy (9th), and Croatia (10th).

Several other teams experienced notable movements, with Uruguay rising four places to 11th. The Comoros Islands achieved their highest-ever position at 119th after climbing nine places, while Kosovo also reached its highest ranking at 101st, moving up four spots.

Other significant movers in the November rankings include Guinea-Bissau (103rd, up 7), Azerbaijan (114th, up 6), Libya (120th, up 6), Malaysia (130th, up 7), and Rwanda (133rd, up 7).

Additionally, Samoa (187th), American Samoa (188th), and Tonga (196th) re-entered the rankings after resuming international football activities following months of inactivity.

These rankings took into account FIFA World Cup qualifiers in African, Asian, and South American countries, as well as UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying matches, Concacaf Nations League 2023-24 encounters, and the Pacific Games 2023.
