Once again, the Federal Government has unveiled plans to initiate the closure of the Iyana Oworonshoki-Adeniji Adele section of the Third Mainland Bridge, starting at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, for essential repairs.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, conveyed that the closure would specifically affect the Lagos Island-bound carriageway of the bridge. The decision to close this section is part of the ongoing emergency repairs aimed at addressing issues throughout the entirety of the bridge.
To mitigate the impact on commuters, Kesha urged motorists to explore alternative routes during the repair period. The suggested alternative routes and links include the following options: Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS and Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Jibowu-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Carter Bridge-CMS. Another alternative route is Gbagada-Anthony-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS.
In light of these developments, motorists are strongly advised to cooperate with traffic management officials who will be deployed to facilitate smooth traffic flow and ensure minimal disruptions during the repair phase.
Expressing gratitude for the public’s previous cooperation and understanding, Kesha emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to ensure the success of the repair efforts. The Federal Ministry of Works encourages the motoring public to remain informed about the alternative routes and to exercise patience and understanding during this necessary repair period.
