Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation and aerospace development, has ordered all foreign airlines to cease operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) by Sunday, October 1, 2023.
During an inspection visit to the Lagos International Airport, Keyamo made the announcement.
The airport’s airlines and business entities were ordered by the ministry to relocate to MMIA Terminal 2, the new terminal.
Additionally, he put a halt to all agreements, plans, and concessions in the area until further notice.
“All airlines should vacate the MMIA before October 1 and relocate to MMIA Terminal 2,” Keyamo said.
Keyamo also directed the suspension of the Nigeria Air initiative, which had been started by the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
In addition, Keyamo suspended all plans made by his predecessor Hadi Sirika to allow an accurate audit of contracts in the aviation sector.
He has also halted the concession project, claiming that he owes an honest evaluation to both the federal government (FG) and Nigerians.
The recently-appointed minister of aviation further said the suspension will be in place until he briefs President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
