The Federal Government has officially designated Monday, December 25th, and Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, as public holidays to commemorate Christmas, along with Monday, January 1st, 2024, for New Year Day celebrations.
In a statement released on Friday by Dr. Peter Egbodo, the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed the government’s warm felicitations to Christians and all Nigerians, both at home and abroad.
The Minister urged Christians to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ, emphasizing the values of humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness that His birth signifies.
Tunji-Ojo underscored the critical role of peace and security as prerequisites for economic development and prosperity. He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, remains committed to implementing effective measures for the security of lives and property. The Minister encouraged citizens to be vigilant, report any suspicious activities or persons to the nearest security agencies, and emphasized the importance of discipline during the Yuletide season to safeguard lives and property.
The Minister concluded by expressing optimism that the year 2024 would be a better year, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu. He extended warm wishes for a happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year celebration, particularly to Christians and all Nigerians.
