Presidential candidate of the African Action Alliance (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has shared a digital flier on X announcing protest against the arrest and prosecution of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi.
Farotimi was arrested on Tuesday over an allegation of defaming senior lawyer Afe Babalola in a book that was recently released about Nigeria’s justice system. The book claimed the senior lawyer was among those that allegedly corrupted the judiciary.
Sowore, using the platform of his Take It Back Movement, announced a nationwide and global protest in demand for the release of Farotimi, who was abducted and remanded in prison over the alleged defamation, which the NBA has condemned, saying it is a civil matter.
According to the flyer, protesters will converge on Afe Babalola’s Chamber in Lagos, the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja and the police headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
In London, protesters will hit Kings’ College Campus, where Mr Babalola donated millions of British pounds to advance human rights and education for African students and has a centre named after him.
