Well-travelled African coaching icon, Pitso Mosimane, has revealed he would be keen on taking charge of the talented Super Eagles team. However, he admitted having reservations around Nigeria’s notorious Federation politics.
Speaking at a South African Football Journalists’ Association (SAFJA) press event this week, Mosimane said he dreams of leading an African side to the World Cup. With Africa having nine allocated spots at the expanded 48-team 2026 global showpiece, the opportunity is there for him.
Mosimane lauded the current Super Eagles squad which boasts global stars like Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen. However, he was dismayed by their stuttering form in 2026 World Cup qualifying, including unexpected draws against lowly ranked Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
While intrigued by the Nigeria job, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly tactician suggested cash-strapped African federations and political interference often derail teams. He highlighted former Super Eagles’ coaches going unpaid due to financial troubles at the Nigerian Football Federation.
With extensive experience across Africa and the Middle East, Mosimane remains open to opportunities, but is holding out for the right fit. If Federation stability can be assured, leading the Super Eagles’ golden generation on the global stage clearly appeals to the 59-year-old.
