An okada rider, Donatus Mathew, who rode on the bandwagon of the Labour Party’s tsunami during the 2023 election in Southern Kaduna to win a House of Representatives seat, has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Matthew, then of the Labour Party defeated House of Representatives Minority Chief Whip Gideon Gwani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Matthew’s victory elicited excitement among many southern Kaduna activists at the time, especially because he defeated a four-term lawmaker representing the Kaura Federal Constituency.
Stephen Kefason, an activist who was excited by Mathew’s victory at the time, has now expressed disappoint with his defection to the APC.
He posted via his X handle: “This opportunist Okada rider that rode on the popularity of Peter Obi to win the House of Representatives seat for Kaura constituency in Southern Kaduna has shamelessly decamped to the APC, having failed woefully as a lawmaker with 0 bill, 0 motion to his name since going to the National Assembly.”
