Poland eased into the UEFA Euro 2024 play-off final with a commanding 5-1 victory over 10-man Estonia at the National Stadium Warsaw, on Thursday night.
The hosts extended their unbeaten home run to eight games and will now face Wales for a coveted place at next year’s European Championship finals in Germany.
Przemysław Frankowski opened the scoring in audacious fashion in the 22nd minute, firing home with the outside of his boot after being played through one-on-one. Things went from bad to worse for Estonia when Maksim Paskotši received his second yellow card just 12 minutes later.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, Estonia’s faint hopes were extinguished early in the second half. Piotr Zieliński headed Poland into a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute before Jakub Piotrowski and an own goal from Karol Mets put the result beyond doubt.
Substitute Sebastian Szymański made it 5-0 in a rampant seven-minute spell, though Martin Vetkal grabbed a late consolation for the 10 men.
