Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, may settle for a plea bargain in his current trial in the hands of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Emefiele, whose arraignment today was stalled after the DSS failed to present him in court, appears to be weighing the option of taking a plea bargain instead of going for a full trial, as per Daily Post report.
A plea bargain is an arrangement between the prosecutor and defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for a more lenient sentence or an agreement to drop other charges.
The planned arraignment of Emefiele which was earlier slated for today, was not listed on the court’s list. The usual DSS officials who would have taken positions if Emefiele were to be brought to court, didn’t show up.
There is no particular date given when the CBN chief would be brought to court.
According to the Daily Post, Emefiele and his-co accused, Saadat Yaro, have opted for a plea bargain to settle with the Federal Government, the reason they were not brought to court.
