Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has revealed plans to approach the court to request a variation in the N300 million bail granted to him by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A member of his legal team confirmed the development, stating that Emefiele has been unable to fulfill the bail conditions. The legal team intends to seek a variation of one of the bail conditions, specifically the restriction of Emefiele’s movement to the court’s jurisdiction.
“We are still on it. We hope to conclude on the bail issue before the week runs out. But, we will be asking the court for a variation in respect of one of the bail conditions where he was restricted to the court’s jurisdiction,” said the legal representative.
Emefiele is currently remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. He was granted bail on November 22, with a sum of N300 million, and conditions included depositing all his travel documents with the court and presenting two sureties with landed properties in Abuja. The court ruled that Emefiele must obtain the court’s permission before leaving the court’s jurisdiction or traveling outside the country.
