Embattled Ondo deputy governor apologizes to Akeredolu
Ondo State’s embattled deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has extended an apology to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in light of the recent political turmoil in the state.
During a media briefing held in the state capital, Akure, Aiyedatiwa expressed his remorse over the negative reports that have marred the political crisis, acknowledging that these reports may have caused embarrassment to the governor in recent months.
In his address, the deputy governor reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Akeredolu and his unwavering commitment to the development of Ondo State. Aiyedatiwa also distanced himself from any participation in protests and calls for the governor’s resignation.
The political tensions between the governor and his deputy have led to the initiation of impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor by the state House of Assembly, citing alleged misconduct.
In a recent development, the state’s lawmakers have expressed their willingness to consider a political solution to the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Aiyedatiwa. This decision follows discussions between the APC’s national leadership, several members of the assembly, and key party figures in the state. A statement issued by the assembly’s spokesperson, Olatunji Oshati, confirmed this decision.
