Twitter CEO, Elon Musk established his own artificial intelligence business, xAI, on Wednesday in an effort to take on OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, which he claims is irresponsible and politically biased.
According to the xAI website, the Tesla billionaire would manage the business independently of his other businesses, but the technology generated would be advantageous to them all, including Twitter.
In a Tweet, Musk clarified that the goal of the new business was to “understand reality” and provide the most important questions in life.
Former researchers from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Tesla, and the University of Toronto work for the firm.
Dan Hendrycks, who presently serves as the director of the Centre for AI Safety, a San Francisco-based organisation that cautions against the hasty development of AI, will provide the team with guidance.
Additionally, Hendrycks was the driving force behind the open letter to world leaders in June that warned AI posed a threat to humanity on par with pandemics and nuclear conflict.
The risks of AI have been repeatedly highlighted by Elon Musk, who has referred to it as “our biggest existential threat” and said that advancing too quickly is like “summoning the demon.”
He has asserted that he helped form OpenAI in 2015 because he thought Google’s hasty efforts to enhance artificial intelligence were irresponsible.
He left OpenAI in 2018 to concentrate on Tesla, subsequently admitting that he was uneasy with the business’s profit-driven course under CEO Sam Altman’s leadership.
Additionally, Musk claims that OpenAI’s huge language models, which ChatGPT and other AI programmes rely on for material, are extremely politically correct.
In an interview with the conservative news outlet Fox News in April, Musk discussed the specifics of his intentions for a new AI tool named “TruthGPT.”
He claimed in the interview that his new AI cMusk also contends that OpenAI’s huge language models, which ChatGPT and other AI programmes rely on for material, are extremely politically correct.
“I think I will create a third option, although it’s starting very late in the game. Can it be done? I don’t know, we’ll see,” he said.
