United States business mogul, Elon Musk, has called on his country’s Director of Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, to resign his appointment following the assassination attempt on former president and Republican Party presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
PoliticsNow had earlier reported that one person died and another one was seriously injured after gunshots were fired at Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The incident also saw the injured former president rushed off stage by security staff.
However, despite neutralising the shooter and taking Trump to safety, Musk has demanded the resignation of the head of the US Secret Service and the leader of Trump’s security detail.
His call followed a BBC report that an eyewitness claimed he informed police and Secret Service about a suspicious man on a roof with a rifle but was ignored.
Reacting to the report, Musk wrote, “The head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail should resign.”
Prior to this, the billionaire businessman had endorsed Donald Trump for the upcoming presidential election.
Elon Musk openly declared his support for the Republican chieftain on Saturday night while reacting to reports of a shooting at the former President’s rally in Pennsylvania.
Taking to his X handle after the incident, he tweeted: “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”
In another post, he wrote: “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt.”
On November 5th, Donald Trump would run against incumbent Joe Biden of the Democratic Party on the platform of the Republican Party in what would be America’s first rematch election in almost 70 years.
