Elections: Give peace a chance in Igboland, says Iwuanyanwu
The Chairman Council of Elders of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has appealed to youths and various agitators in the south east to sheath their swords and allow violent-free elections in the zone.
He made the call in Owerri during a World news Conference to respond to threats of violence issued by some individuals against politicians and the electorate who would participate in the forthcoming general election.
Chief Iwuanyanwu expressed worry over wanton killings that had taken place in the south east noting that the people of the zone were not known for shedding innocent blood of their brothers.
The elder statesman explained that the Council of Elders was working assiduously to ensure that the leader of the proscribed indigenous people of Biafra Mazi Nnamdi Kanu regained his freedom unconditionally.
Chief Iwuanyanwu noted that the Council would soon convene a peace summit where the youths would be given the opportunity to ventilate their grievances noting that he could not keep quiet and watch the bloodshed and negative impacts of insecurity in the economy of the region.
