Manchester City and Brazil goalkeeper, Ederson Moraes, has been crowned the winner of the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award following his instrumental role in leading Pep Guardiola’s side to a historic domestic and European treble last season.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper produced a series of outstanding performances between the sticks as Manchester City claimed the English Premier League title, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in 2022/2023.
Arguably his finest display came in the European Cup final against Inter Milan, making five crucial saves, including a stunning stop late on to secure a 1-0 victory.
After being nominated alongside Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois and Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, Ederson claimed the award for the first time in his career at a ceremony in London. He thanked his family and teammates in his acceptance speech, admitting they had been “very important” throughout a memorable year.
As well as lifting three major trophies with City, Ederson also got his hands on the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during a phenomenal 2022/2023 season. His exploits have now been recognised by FIFA with one of world football’s most prestigious individual accolades.
