The once cozy relationship that exist between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, appears to be over as the two have been scheming on who will fill the position of National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party with their loyalists.
A loyalist of Wike, Sam Anyanwu has been the PDP National Secretary until a High Court in Enugu declared the position vacant when he became the PDP candidate in the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Imo. The court also declared Udeh Okoye as the new National Secretary.
Anyanwu however fought back and obtained a High Court ruling which declared him as still the PDP National Secretary.
On the strength of the court ruling, Anyanwu returned to his post at Wadata Plaza, the PDP National Headquarters.
But Seyi Makinde has refused to recognize Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary since it was delivered by a court of coordinate jurisdiction.
In a letter to the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees Adolphus Wabara titled: Re: The need to comply with court judgment on the position of the National Secretary, Seyi Makinde warned that failure to comply with the said court ruling (which recognised Udeh as the National Secretary) could be inimical to the chances of the party in future elections.
It was also gathered that Wike, the unelected leader of the G5, which is the group formed to oppose the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election, has been rallying support for Anyanwu to be recognized by stakeholders of the party.
