Dele Momodu responds to claims that Atiku forged his SSCE certificate

Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party and a close associate of Atiku Abubakar, who was the 2023 PDP presidential candidate, has strongly refuted allegations that Atiku forged his West African Certificate Examination result.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday, Mr Momodu revealed that members of the ruling party had been relentlessly accusing Atiku of falsifying his certificate. He went on to clarify that he had personally reached out to Atiku Abubakar, who explained that he indeed used the name Sadiq Abubakar when taking his WAEC exam. However, Atiku later swore an affidavit attesting to the fact that both names, Sadiq Abubakar and Atiku Abubakar, belong to him.

Atiku reportedly said, “Yes, I used Sadiq Abubakar to sit for my WAEC, and after passing my exams. I went to swear an affidavit to confirm that I am the same person as ATIKU Abubakar. I attended ABU as Atiku Abubakar, passed my exams as Atiku Abubakar, was interviewed as Atiku Abubakar by the Federal Civil Service Commission, and was hired into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar. So, where is the forgery here?” Dele Momodu quoted Atiku as saying.

It is worth noting that allegations of forgery against Atiku Abubakar surfaced during the heated debates surrounding the legitimacy of President Bola Tinubu’s certificate presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Atiku was accused of using the name Sadiq Abubakar when taking his WAEC exam.

These allegations coincided with Chicago State University’s confirmation that it had not issued the certificate presented by Tinubu to INEC in the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election.

Political analysts, however, view the forgery allegations against Atiku as a possible attempt to divert attention from the serious certificate forgery case against Tinubu involving Chicago State University.
