Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, the Koko Master crooner, has been exonerated by both the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of allegations involving rape and fraud related to the N-Power program.
Documents obtained from both agencies, marked as exhibits A and B in an affidavit submitted by Toheeb Lawal from the Abuja-based law firm Law Corridor to the District Court of Abuja, confirm D’banj’s clearance from the aforementioned allegations.
The investigation into the rape accusation against D’banj in 2020, initiated by the Inspector General of Police, concluded with a report dated November 14, 2023. Signed by ACP Y.Y. Abubakar of the Special Enquiry Bureau at the Force Criminal Investigations Department, the report states, “The allegation was thoroughly investigated, including inquiries at the Glee Hotel Lagos, where staff members provided statements regarding the alleged incident. The hotel’s management and staff confirmed that the suspect was not present on the alleged date and had no access to the complainant’s room. Additionally, there was no record of the complainant staying at the hotel on that date, nor were there any reports of an assault or rape.”
Moreover, the ICPC’s investigation into the alleged N-Power Programme fraud involving D’banj found no basis for fraud allegations against him, as per a document dated November 29, 2023.
D’banj’s legal representative emphasized that the singer, who never held any government position, had no access to government funds. D’banj had volunteered support for the N-Power campaign without receiving compensation from the government or any other entity.
