Davido defaulted on crucial press conference which cost N10m to organize because he wanted to take his wife for dinner, Abu Salami says
A businessman, Abu Salami, has revealed details of the contractual agreement he had with David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, which cost him to lose N218 million.
Abu Salami is a football entrepreneur who said he secured a deal of N500 million to produce a football television reality television show.
He then hired Davido to handle the publicity end of the deal, according to Salami, who also claimed that the music star, after collecting N218 million in several tranches from him, failed to honour the agreement.
In an X Space hosted by @PIDOMNIGERIA which had over 4,000 participants on Saturday, Abu Salami said Davido was always in the habit of canceling video shoots and other activities in the project. He said the final straw was a press conference that was supposed to be held early in the year at Federal Palace Hotel. He said all the logistics had been put in place which cost over N10 million, only for Davido to cancel the press conference hours before the event. When asked why, Abu Salami said Davido told him he was taking his wife for dinner.
PoliticsNow had reported how Abu Salami said he met Davido after securing a N500 million deal to produce a football reality television show
He said: “I approached David that come and do this business with me. Influence this project. If you influence this project, we stand to make XYZ. I opened up the business plan to him, and he thought this is a lot of money. And it’s a lot of money. Football business is a big business,” he said.
Salami said Davido was supposed to participate in video shoots, press conferences and post contents on social media. He, however, claimed that Davido defaulted in all the commitments. Worse still, he claimed Davido failed to refund the more than N200 million paid to him for the job.
The businessman has also showed evidence of payment to Davido’s bank account.
Hear him: “Now, it’s been over a year, you (Davido) had opportunity to do your job. You cancelled three shoots. You’ve cancelled two press conferences. You haven’t taken part in any of the screening phase. You haven’t posted this on social media. You haven’t done anything for this project. I have lost money. I have lost sponsorship. And you think you can bully me with your father’s name? Think about it David. Do I look like an illiterate to you?”
Salami vowed to drag Davido until he clears his alleged debt.
This is not the first time Davido is being dragged for taking money for a project and refusing to honour his own part of the deal.
A few weeks ago, former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, said over N80 million was paid to Davido to perform at an event in Warri, but the singer defaulted and has refused to refund the money
