Cultists are alleged to have murdered at least 20 young men in Sagamu, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to information gathered by PoliticsNow, the typical supremacy conflict between the Eiye and Aiye confraternities restarted on Saturday.
Since then, about 20 young males, including secondary school students, have been brutally murdered by the cults.
Some of the attack victims were seen lying in pools of blood with one of their hands severed in graphic videos and images posted online by locals.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the public relations officer for the Nigerian Police Force, has responded to the Sagamu cult killings.
Adejobi stated on his X account that all hands must be on deck because the situation in Sagamu requires more than just the deployment of an anti-cultism squad.
“Sagamu case goes beyond the mere anti cultism squad. The elders know how to handle them. The politicians know what to do. I was in their midst in Sagamu between 2006 and 2008. But no single cult clash before I left in 2008. I worked then with the late Akarigbo, Oba Michael Sonariwo and others,” he said.
The Force PRO further stated that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police should reflect internally before acting on rumours that security personnel are familiar with the cults.
Nigerians are already responding to the cult clashes on social media with sagamu making the Twitter trend.
