COAS tells Nigerians to expect renewed vigour in fight against insecurity
Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has pledged a rejuvenated commitment from the Nigerian Army in addressing the numerous security challenges plaguing various regions of the nation.
Lagbaja made these remarks as he presided over the passing-out ceremony of 6,315 recruits from the 85 Regular Recruits Intake at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria on Saturday.
Lagbaja, not only served as the reviewing officer but also graced the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.
Highlighting the significance of this event, Lagbaja emphasized that the induction of these 6,315 recruits will play a crucial role in bridging a critical gap identified by the army in its continuous efforts to quell insecurity. He assured the populace that, in the days ahead, law-abiding citizens would witness a revitalized sense of stability and a more peaceful environment, enabling them to carry out their lawful activities without hindrance.
Lagbaja stressed the significance of the new soldiers entering the Nigerian Army at a time when the nation is grappling with a multitude of security threats. These threats encompass insurgencies in the North East, banditry, and cattle rustling in the North West, as well as farmer-herder clashes in the North Central. In addition, the soldiers will confront secessionist movements and cultism in the South East, while also addressing militancy and the vandalism of national assets in the South-South, among other challenges.
To further enhance the training of recruits and align their preparedness with the dynamic demands of the field, the COAS urged the Commandant of Depot NA and their team to take some time to reflect on improvements in training. He assured them of ongoing support from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, which will provide the necessary facilities and equipment to aid in this mission.
