Chelsea have completed the £30 million signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich, securing one of their top summer targets. The 22-year-old, who bagged 12 goals last season, has penned a six-year deal, choosing Chelsea over multiple Premier League suitors including Manchester United.
Manager Enzo Maresca’s prior relationship with Delap from Manchester City was key in the England Under-21 international’s decision. Delap will now miss the U21 Euros to join Chelsea for the Club World Cup.
“It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop,” Delap shared, expressing his ambition to win trophies with the club.
Chelsea’s transfer window remains active, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike still on their radar, potentially impacting Nicolas Jackson. The club is also moving for Milan keeper Mike Maignan and has paid £5m to offload Jadon Sancho.
