Charley Boy slams Fela Durotoye for accepting Tinubu’s appointment

Renowned Nigerian musician, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charley Boy, has criticized former presidential candidate Fela Durotoye for accepting an appointment from President Bola Tinubu.

President Tinubu had made public his appointment of Mr. Durotoye to his cabinet, along with several other individuals, on Monday.

However, Charley Boy, in a tweet posted on Tuesday, expressed his lack of surprise at Durotoye’s appointment, suggesting that the former presidential candidate had entered the 2019 presidential race with the intention of disrupting it.

According to Charley Boy, Mr. Durotoye was one of the influential figures who had aligned themselves with President Tinubu, thereby compromising their principles.

He stated, “Many influencers and supposed role models are aligning themselves with the APC group. Fela Durotoye has joined forces with those who have caused suffering to our people. Congratulations, although I am not astonished. I had a personal encounter with this young man five or six years ago when he sought my support for his presidential ambition. He entered the presidential race with the intention of being a spoiler.”

The veteran singer went on to suggest that President Tinubu’s administration would announce additional surprising appointments in the days to come.

Recall that Fela Durotoye had teamed up with Sahara Reporters’ publisher, Omoyele Sowore, and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, in the lead-up to the 2019 general election. They had aimed to establish a third political force that could challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

However, their partnership did not yield the desired results, as all three politicians eventually ran in the 2019 presidential election under different party banners and failed to garner enough votes to secure victory in the general election.
