Newcastle United will face off against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals following Wednesday night’s comprehensive fourth-round win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Chelsea enjoyed some welcome respite from their woeful Premier League form by seeing off Championship side Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are seeking a first domestic trophy since 2018 but will have their work cut out for them if they are to reach the semi-finals.
West Ham United’s reward for dumping English Premier League title challengers Arsenal out of the competition is a last-eight meeting with Liverpool at Anfield. Meanwhile, Everton host Fulham in the other all-Premier League tie.
League One’s Port Vale, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition after beating Mansfield Town of League Two on Tuesday, have been presented with Middlesbrough as a reward for getting this far. It guarantees that one non-Premier League club will be in the semi-finals.
The four quarter-final fixtures will be played in the week commencing Monday 18 December 2023. This places them in the few days leading up to Christmas in a traditionally hectic period of festive football.
