On Saturday, Burnley faced a 2-0 home defeat against Everton, now managed by their former boss Sean Dyche, exacerbating their relegation concerns. First-half goals from Amadou Onana and Michael Keane secured Everton’s fourth consecutive English Premier League victory, allowing them to move away from the relegation zone after their points deduction.
Sean Dyche, who led Burnley to considerable success during his 10-year tenure, including two promotions and establishing them as a resilient top-flight club, received a warm welcome on his return with Everton. Despite his past achievements, Dyche was sacked in April 2022 amid Burnley’s relegation battle.
The visitors took control early in the match, with Onana heading in a corner in the 19th minute to give Everton the lead. Keane doubled the advantage in the 25th minute with a deflected low shot from distance off Burnley’s Dara O’Shea.
Although Burnley showed improvement in the second half, they struggled to create clear scoring opportunities. Their best chance came when Sander Berge hit the crossbar from long range. Everton’s sturdy defense ensured a crucial victory, condemning Burnley to their eighth defeat in nine league games.
With just eight points from 17 matches, Burnley sits one spot above the bottom of the EPL table on goal difference. Unless there is a swift change in form and fortune under manager Vincent Kompany, the looming threat of relegation persists for the Clarets.
