Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari saluted President Bola Tinubu on his emergence as chairman of the Economic Community of West African States..
In a statement released by his former spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the former president expressed delight at learning that President Tinubu had been chosen to lead the regional bloc at its 63rd Ordinary Session, which was held on Sunday in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau.
“West Africans have entrusted our new leader with an enormous responsibility, and it will be our task as citizens to support him to not let them down.I pray the Almighty will make his tenure as Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government see to the restoration of ECOWAS as the bastion of democracy, good governance and a leader in fighting terrorism and climate change on the continent,” Buhari in the statement said.
Following President Tinubu’s election as ECOWAS chairman, supporters of the president have been ecstatic. Opponents criticised the union for naming Tinubu as its new leader despite Narcotics allegations leveled against the president.
