President Bola Tinubu has summoned the minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to the Presidential Villa following the controversy over a firm owned by him benefitting from a N438 million contract from the suspended Minister of Interior, Betta Edu.
Edu awarded a contract of N435 million to New Planet Project, a firm founded by Tunji-Ojo for vetting the homes of Nigerians in the National Social Register.
According to Nation Newspaper, the summon is in connection with the controversy surrounding the N438 million contract that Tunji-Ojo’s firm benefitted from.
Recall that the suspended Minister allegedly spent N3 billion in contract to various companies to verify 11 million homes of poor Nigerians. Tunji-Ojo’s company allegedly benefited from the contract.
Nigerians have raised dust about the contract, imputing conflict of interest in the award. But Tunji-Ojo yesterday said he resigned as director of the firm five years ago, hence no conflict of interest in the contract award. But that appears not to fly with Nigerians because he still retains significant shareholding of the company and his wife remains a director.
