President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Saturday for Berlin, Germany, to participate in the G20 Compact with Africa (CwA) Conference on November 20, 2023. Hosted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the conference will bring together Heads of State and Government from CwA member countries, bilateral partners, and leaders of international organizations. The aim is to discuss strategies for enhancing economic and business cooperation, with a focus on boosting investments in critical sectors such as energy, trade, infrastructure, and new technologies.
The G20 CwA Conference will run concurrently with the Fourth G20 Investment Summit, co-hosted by the German Government and German business associations. President Tinubu’s attendance reflects his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties. The visit follows Chancellor Scholz’s recent trip to Abuja and Lagos in October 2023.
President Tinubu’s delegation, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Minister of Power, will build on previous discussions with high-ranking representatives from German business organizations. The President’s focus will be on encouraging German companies to invest in various sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Nigeria and Germany, as the largest economies in Africa and Europe, experienced a notable increase in bilateral trade volume from two to three billion Euros between 2021 and 2022. President Tinubu aims to strengthen economic collaboration during his visit to Germany, emphasizing Nigeria’s status as Germany’s second-largest trading partner in Africa.
Upon the conclusion of the conference, President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria, having furthered the nation’s diplomatic and economic objectives on the global stage.
