Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has sworn-in 38 year-old Omobayo Marvellous Godwin as new Deputy Governor of the state just hours after the State Assembly sacked Comrade Philip Shaibu from his post.
Comrade Shaibu was impeached by the State House of Assembly after a fractious relationship with his boss over the political calculation of who flies the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September election.
The embattled Shaibu was sacked by the lawmakers during Monday’s plenary session.
The impeachment followed an investigation by Justice S.A Omonua and a seven-man panel into the impeachment petition against Governor Obaseki’s deputy.
Omobayo was until his appointment a chieftain of the opposition Labour Party (LP). He contested as House of Represented member in the 2023 election.
