Obi’s ally Valentine Ozigbo resigns from Labour Party, romances APC

Valentine Ozigbo, a chieftain of the Labour Party and ally of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has resigned his membership of the Labour Party.

Ozigbo was a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2021 Anambra State governorship election and a key contender for the 2025 race.

He officially resigned from the Labour Party (LP) on Wednesday, February 19.

His departure from the party has fuelled speculations ahead of the upcoming elections.

Ozigbo’s resignation comes amid growing rumours suggesting that he may soon announce his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports indicate that he recently held a closed-door meeting with APC zonal leaders in Anambra South, where he allegedly criticized 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, describing him as lacking strong leadership qualities.

President Bola Tinubu’s aide on communication, Daniel Bwala, has congratulated Ozigbo for quitting the Labour Party. He then extended invitation to the politician to join the APC.

Among those vying for the Labour Party’s governorship ticket are John Nwosu and former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Dr. George Moghalu.

Ozigbo initially joined the Labour Party in August 2022, following his departure from the PDP.

He posted via his X handle, “My brother and friend Mazi Valentine Ozigbo, I welcome your resignation from the Labour Party as a bold and Progressive move; I also would like to kindly invite you to join our party, the All Progressive Congress (APC). The largest party in Africa. I want to also extend the invitation to Peter Obi to join us in moving Nigeria forward and renew the hope of our people.”
