Bill for creation of new state from Kano passed first reading  

 

The bill seeking to create ‘Tiga’, a new state from Kano, has passed first reading at the Senate.  

The bill titled, “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Alteration) (Creation of Tiga State) Bill, 2024 is sponsored by Kawu Sumaila, senator representing Kano south. 

Kano has 44  local government areas and is one of the states with the highest  population in the country.

Earlier, Ned Nwoko, senator representing Delta north, proposed the creation of Anioma State in the South-East, having passed its first reading at the Upper Chamber. 

Also, in the Lower Chamber,  five members from the South-East have proposed the creation of Etiti State to be carved out of the present Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

There is also a bill seeking the creation of Orlu State to be carved out of the Imo, Abia, and Anambra states, which passed the first reading in the Green Chamber. It is sponsored by Ikenga Ugochinyere, a lawmaker representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency, Imo State, and others.
