Suspended Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Minister Dr. Betta Edu has arrived at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Headquarters to be grilled over alleged N585 million fraud in her ministry.
Edu’s predecessor at the Humanitarian Ministry, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, will also continue with her interview at the EFCC over a N37 billion fraud.
Edu, who was suspended on Monday, January 8, by President Bola Tinubu, was accused of attempting to pay the humanitarian fund into a private account.
The N585 million was meant for payment of grants to vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River and Ogun states.
Edu is the first minister under Tinubu’s government to be suspended from office since August 2023 when the Federal Executive Council was sworn-in
