BBNaija All Stars: Uriel eviction, tribalism allegation – The juries are to blame

It has been a while since I have made an update on the going on in the Big Brother House and so far, there have been parties, wager wins and losses, excessive fighting and so on. All of these seem to be quite interesting and have struck the attention of the audience but what has really surprised us more is the new eviction method this season.

At the beginning of the season, Ebuka Obi Uchendu informed us that Big Brother has introduced a new voting out feature in which 3 former housemates would be called ‘The Jury’ and they will make the decision between the bottom 2 housemates of who would be evicted from the Big Brother house.

Personally, in my opinion, I have no issues with the jury feature. I mean, why not? It’s an All Star season! We know the strengths of most of the returning housemates so it would be quite easy to guess who the winner of this season would be. Why not throw in a twist to stir things up?

But it seems this week’s jury decision really stirred up not only the season but the audience. The first eviction week, the bottom two listed were Princess and Seyi, and the jury to decide were Bisola Ayoola of the Season 2 See Gobe season, Dorothy Bachor of Season 5 Lockdown season and Mike Edwards of Season 4 Pepper Dem season, all runner ups. They made the collective decision that Princess should be evicted from the Big Brother house and by statistics, Seyi was the lowest and let’s be honest, we all agree. Princess wasn’t giving much in the house. Just like Seyi, she was pretty much close to being invisible.

But this week’s eviction soured the mouths of many viewers. The bottom 2 housemates this week were Uriel and Seyi and of course by normal thought, we’d all expect Seyi to go home because he has pretty much been a vegetable since he stepped his foot into the house. The jury chosen this week were Teddy A from Season 3 Double Wahala, Diana from last year’s Level Up season and Laycon, the winner of the Lockdown season. The jury finalized that Uriel should leave the Big Brother and this got on majority of the viewer’s nerves.

It reached the point were the viewers ordered for the jury feature to be scrapped because the jury were making decisions based on personal interest of the housemates and not because of the interest of the season. Points were made that the votes turned out that way due to tribalism, being that Teddy A and Laycon are Yoruba and decided to save their brother Seyi and let Uriel go. But this would be debunked because Teddy A stated that he voted Seyi out due to personal issues. All in all, the reasons the jury gave towards their decisions were pointless and unnecessary. We as your viewers do not need your personal interests to conflict the flavorful part of the show. The audience took it to X (Twitter) demanding for the show to take away the jury feature as it is unfair and unjustifiable.

The jury feature may seem unfair because of the conflict of personal interest, it still manages to strike the balance of uncertainty in the show. Now the viewers wouldn’t have to easily guess who would leave the show next as well as who may take home the prize. And it still brings in another set of drama outside the house which concerns the former housemates. The only thing left for the audience currently watching is to try as much as possible to vote for their favorites so they wouldn’t be unfortunate to land in the bottom 2 and in the hands of the jury. I mean, Big Brother Naija turned Nigerian court of law? Case adjourned!
