Bayern agree €75m deal for Liverpool’s Luis Diaz

Bayern Munich have finalised a €75 million agreement to sign Liverpool forward, Luis Diaz. The 28-year-old, currently in Tokyo with Liverpool’s pre-season squad, has been granted permission to travel and complete the move within 24 hours. Liverpool had previously rejected a €67.5 million bid from Bayern but resumed negotiations after Diaz expressed his desire to leave.

Diaz was excluded from Liverpool’s friendly against AC Milan on July 27, with manager, Arne Slot, confirming the decision was linked to transfer discussions. “Lucho is training well, but we decided it was best for him not to play at this moment,” Slot said. The Colombian, under contract until 2027, scored 13 English Premier League goals last season as Liverpool won the title.

Liverpool have already sold Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Nathaniel Phillips this summer. Their attacking overhaul includes the £69 million signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and interest in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. Darwin Nunez is also available for transfer, while Harvey Elliott is assessing his future amid squad competition.

Bayern turned to Diaz after missing out on primary targets Florian Wirtz, who joined Liverpool, and Nico Williams, who renewed with Athletic Club. The Bundesliga champions value Diaz’s versatility across the front line. Since arriving from Porto in January 2022 for £37.5 million, Diaz has contributed 41 goals and 23 assists in 148 appearances for Liverpool.

The club’s transfer plans were further complicated by the tragic deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva in a car accident on July 3. Diaz’s departure marks another significant change in Liverpool’s attacking options ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.
