The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming Bayelsa State election scheduled for November 11th, Timipre Sylva, has strongly criticized the incumbent Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Duoye Diri, alleging a lack of competence in governance.
Sylva argues that Diri’s governmental experience is limited to a short tenure as a Senator and, before that, a position as a principal secretary, which he contends does not equip Diri adequately to lead Bayelsa State. Sylva drew a comparison between Diri’s background and that of a classroom teacher.
During his recent campaign tour through various regions in Bayelsa, Sylva not only showcased his own experience but also pledged to undertake substantial projects should he secure victory in November. Speaking to residents in Agoro, Peretorugbene, Ndoro, and other communities, Sylva emphasized the crucial role of experience in addressing the challenges faced by the people.
He stated, “Now, we are prepared to accomplish substantial undertakings. I am pleased that former Governor Seriake Dickson initiated the road to Ekeremor, but unfortunately, its progress halted. However, I want to assure you that, when elected, we will extend the road all the way to Agge. Additionally, I have made commitments to the paramount ruler that we will activate the health center in Peretorugbene, ensuring consistent access to electricity and water.”
“We are well aware of the widespread flooding and erosion issues that plague not only Peretorugbene but the entirety of Bayelsa State. I possess viable solutions and can genuinely address these problems. During my previous term as governor, I worked diligently to enhance the lives of our people. This time around, we are poised to achieve even more significant advancements,” Sylva asserted.
He also underscored the significance of human resources, particularly women, and announced plans to bolster agricultural development. Sylva argued that Diri lacks the capacity to discuss these issues comprehensively due to his limited experience, having spent only a brief period in the Senate and holding prior positions as a principal secretary and a classroom teacher. In contrast, Sylva asserted that he brings a wealth of experience that will positively impact the development of both the people and Bayelsa State as a whole.
