APC’s Sylva alleges Army officers with thugs are snatching ballot boxes
Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the ongoing Bayelsa State election, Timipre Sylva, has accused the Army of joining thugs to snatch ballot boxes in the state.
After voting, Sylva addressed journalists by alleging that Army officers were hand-in-gloves with the PDP in snatching of ballot boxes.
He said: “By afternoon, we had situation where the Army, especially in Bayelsa State, have taken over some areas . In Useni, I’ve just spoken to them. They said it is the Army that is out there with the PDP to snatch ballot boxes. I don’t know the extent of what is going on. But frankly speaking, the security in Bayelsa State must be called to order. They are really playing the side of the PDP unfortunately, especially, the Army which is playing the side of the PDP. But we are expecting that at the end of the day, our people will contain them and we will come out victorious.”
Police speak on efforts to rescue abducted INEC staff
The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Tolani Alausa, has taken decisive action in response to the abduction of an official from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The INEC official was kidnapped on Friday night while en route to her assigned duty point in Sagbama.
Commissioner Alausa disclosed that he has mobilized the command’s tactical force to track down the abductors responsible for the incident. Providing an update while monitoring the ongoing election activities in Bayelsa State, Alausa confirmed that the police have identified a suspect linked to the abduction.
According to Alausa, the targeted INEC official and her team were on their way to Sagbama, requiring a boat journey. However, they encountered a group of hoodlums who attacked and abducted her along with the ballot materials. The Commissioner stated, “Since last night, I’ve deployed all my tactical team, and we are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.”
He further revealed the name of the suspected perpetrator as Jonah Adaka, adding that efforts to locate him have proven challenging. Alausa noted that a boat mishap occurred during the course of the investigation, fortunately resulting in no casualties. However, the electoral materials transported by the INEC official reportedly sank.
PoliticsNow recalls that the INEC’s Supervising Presiding Officer (SPO) for registration area 06 in Ossioma, Sagbama Local Government Area, fell victim to unknown gunmen who carried out the kidnapping. The situation remains under active investigation as law enforcement agencies work to secure the release of the abducted INEC official and bring the perpetrators to justice.
