Why We Suspended Planned Nationwide Strike — NLC, TUC

Banks, hotels, construction, other unions direct members to join nationwide strike, Wednesday

 

As Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC commenced a nationwide strike on Tuesday November 14, all other affiliate unions have  showed solidarity, directing their members to stay away from work with effect from Wednesday, November  15th. 

The affiliates union that endorsed the  strike action are: Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, (ASSBIFI), Hotel and Personal Services Senior Staff Association, Chemical and non Metallic Products and Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA)

Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions in a release signed by its leaders –  Joseph Agoha and Anthony O. Emeh directed all members to stay away from work with effect from Wednesday 15th November to prevent likely attacks by hoodlums and disgruntled persons.

Hotel and Personal Services Senior Staff Association, under the leadership of Comrade Iyeh Williams Adegbe, also urged their members to join the strike unconditionally. 

In the same vain, Chemical and non Metallic Products, under Segun Samson David, directed its members  to follow suit. 

Similarly, construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA) asked all members to comply and proceed on strike in compliance with the NLC/TUC directives. 

Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC had on Monday directed workers nationwide to shutdown their services effective 12:00 midnight of Tuesday, 13th November 2023 despite a courr order restraining them from embarking on strike in the wake of the deadlock with the Imo State government. 

The compliance by the affiliates is in accordance with the directives of  the decision of the Joint National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC and TUC.
