Atiku’s aide reacts to ex-Lagos Speaker  Obasa’s missing name among legal practitioners in Nigeria, says there are many of them in govt

Paul Ibe, a media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has queried why disclosure on the lawyer status of the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa is just coming out.

A document recently surfaced on the social media which was corroborated by the Supreme Court of Nigeria revealed that Obasa’s name is not in the record of legal practitioners in Nigeria.

The document, a response by the Supreme Court to a verification request on the status of Obasa as a lawyer, was dated July 24, 2020 and signed by one Gertrude Karenton-Mordi on behalf of the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court.

Per Arise News report, the spokesman of the Supreme Court, Dr Fetus Akande, confirmed the document, acknowledging that, “It emanated from our office.”

Obasa had claimed to have received a bachelor’s degree in Law from Lagos State University, Lagos, in 2006.

Ibe,  writing via his X handle @omonlakiki said there are many Obasas in the government, especially in the class of 2023.

He said: “Why is the Supreme Court document alleging that impeached Speaker Obasa is not a registered legal practitioner just coming out now? By the way, there are several of such persons still serving in government from the very top to lawmakers.

“Among the class of 2023 are those who forged certificates; lied about schools they never attended; refunded money for links to drugs trafficking; indicted for stealing funds of their clients and involved in credit card scam. There are several Obasas still holding sway.”
