The United States District Court in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, has reserved judgment in the case of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against President Bola Tinubu.
Atiku is seeking the court’s nod to compel the Chicago State University (CSU) to release the educational records of Tinubu on the ground that the discoveries would form part of an appeal proceedings in the Nigeria presidential election case.
The CSU agreed to the release of Tinubu’s educational records after an initial refusal to do so.
But Tinubu, in a filing on Wednesday, protested the release of the records on the ground that they were not part of Atiku’s petition at the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal in Nigeria, hence, the U.S Court should deny him access to the academic records.
The court has yet to rule on the matter, but the PDP is already celebrating the Chicago State University (CSU) decision on its official X handle.
It posted: “This is now official. The Chicago State University in the United States of America, in response to the application filed by the @OfficialPDPNig and its Presidential Candidate in the February 25, 2023 Election, @Atiku has agreed to release the credentials of Bola A. Tinubu. Nigerians and members of the international community are eagerly waiting for this information as this will form a greater part of the decision making process of the petition before the court.”
