Ex-militant leader Asari Dokubo has said he regretted supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 election, vowing to undo the mistake by teaming up with the North against the president’s reelection in 2027.
Asari, who until recently, was a vocal supporter of Tinubu and even pledged in the past that if the President fails he (Asari) should be held responsible, recently recanted. He cited a proverb of a monkey kid on the back of its mother pilfering stuff without the mother’s endorsement. He argued that the mother monkey couldn’t be held responsible for what the monkey kid did with their hand.
Asari said it was a mistake that his Ijaw tribe formed alliance with the South West, saying they have been betrayed. He said that it is the North he would mobilize the Ijaw people to support in z2027.
He said in a video circulating on various social media platforms, “From today, I will work to form an alliance with the north to crụsh any other opposition. I’m disappointed in Tinubu.”
