Arsenal produced a scintillating attacking display to thrash Chelsea 5-0 at the Emirates on Tuesday night, extending their lead at the top of the English Premier League table to three points over Liverpool. Mikel Arteta’s side made a blistering start, with Leandro Trossard firing them ahead inside four minutes after being played in by Declan Rice’s driving run.
Despite Chelsea threatening an equaliser at times, the Gunners doubled their advantage just after the interval through Ben White’s composed finish. The floodgates then opened as Martin Odegaard’s delightful through ball allowed Kai Havertz to make it 3-0 against his former club before the German striker added his second shortly after.
White inadvertently scored Arsenal’s fifth in bizarre fashion as his cross-cum-shot evaded everyone and nestled in the far corner. Arteta was able to withdraw several key players in the closing stages as his side coasted through the remainder of an utterly one-sided encounter against the demoralised Blues.
The victory boosts Arsenal’s sublime run and puts the pressure on fellow title contenders Manchester City, who have two games in hand, and Liverpool with pivotal games to come. Chelsea, meanwhile, are left licking their wounds after an embarrassing derby defeat.
