Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz propelled Arsenal to a much-needed 2-0 victory, over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Jesus set the Gunners on their way with a second-half back-post header, before Havertz sealed an impressive Arsenal performance with a coolly-taken finish late on.
The comprehensive win ended a two-match winless run for Mikel Arteta’s side and provided a significant morale boost going into the festive season patch of games. Arsenal currently sits atop the English Premier League table and can reflect positively on an impressive opening half to the 2023/2024 campaign.
The remainder of the match saw Arsenal firmly in control, carving out multiple opportunities. Lewis Dunk almost snatched an equaliser, but it was substitute Eddie Nketiah who set up Havertz for the decisive second goal. De Zerbi’s Brighton ultimately struggled to contain the Gunners, with Arsenal’s defence standing firm to keep a clean sheet.
The result leaves Arteta and Arsenal in an excellent position going into the hectic festive period. The Gunners will now be determined to sustain their title charge when they take on fellow title contenders Liverpool on Christmas Eve.
