The Socio-Economic Rights and Acontablility Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to arrest and punish those responsible for brutalizing Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress.
Making this call in a statement made available on its official X handle, SERAP urged the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government to allow workers to exercise their human rights.
“The Tinubu administration must immediately identify, arrest, and bring to justice those responsible for the arbitrary arrest and ill-treatment of NLC President Joe Ajaero. Authorities must allow Nigerian workers to exercise their human rights. This impunity must stop,” statement by SERAP read.
The Rights organisation had earlier called for the immediate release of Mr Ajaero, who was arrested by men of the Nigerian Police Force on Wednesday, shortly after the NLC protest in the state got underway.
SERAP threatened to sue the Bola Tinubu-led government should it refuse to immediately release the labor union leader.
However, as a result of the brutal treatment he received at the hands of Nigerian Police Force members, the labor union leader was admitted to the hospital this evening.
