APC replies Obi’s press conference, says court cases are not won on public opinion

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a response to the recent press conference held by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

As previously reported by PoliticsNow, Peter Obi addressed a world press conference on Monday, where he accused the Supreme Court of undermining public trust in the judiciary due to its decision.

In a statement signed by the party’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, the APC welcomed Peter Obi’s active involvement in opposition politics and urged him to approach his criticism with maturity and constructiveness.

The APC argued that Obi’s criticism of the Supreme Court, despite benefiting from its decisions in the past, reflected a sense of vanity and arrogance. The statement read, “As someone who has previously benefited from the Supreme Court’s rulings on electoral matters, Obi’s sharp critique of the judiciary only underscores his arrogance and self-importance. When the same court previously ruled in his favor, they were seen as champions of democracy. Now that the rulings are not in his favor, suddenly the court is accused of betraying democracy.”

It’s worth recalling that in October, the Supreme Court dismissed the petitions brought by Peter Obi and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, challenging President Tinubu’s election victory.
